How to GetAdventurers Assemble quest

Core Passive, Ouyang Varen’s Hunting Technique: For every 1% of water damage increase Ouyang Varen has, his damage increases by 0.3%, up to 15%.

You need a 50% water damage increase to reach the full 15%.

Pros:

• Free and easy to get early in the game
• His ultimate protects the whole squad from monster attacks
• A successful parry guarantees a stagger on the counter
• Works well as a squad member, since he moves in front of the main adventurer on his own

Cons:

• His damage is the lowest of the Assault adventurers
• His passive needs a lot of water damage to reach its cap
• You have to time the parry, or wait for the automatic counter

Ouyang Varen Skills Overview

Varen plays around his shield and a charged thrust.

• Skill 3: Hold it to charge and gain Sharpness stacks. When you release it, you spend the stacks on a long-range thrust that deals massive damage.
• Skill 2: Use it right after releasing Skill 3 to chain into a follow-up attack.
• Sentinel Thrust (Ultimate): Tap it to raise his shield in place and parry. Any squad member within range is protected from monster attacks. After a successful parry, he performs an enhanced counter that deals Combo damage and guarantees the monster staggers. If nothing attacks him for a while, he performs a normal counter on his own that deals Combo damage.

When he is a squad member and not the main adventurer, Sentinel Thrust works a little differently. He immediately moves in front of the main adventurer and parries for them. His ultimate is more defensive than most Assault ultimates, which are usually damage-focused.

Ouyang Varen is a free adventurer. You get him by completing the Adventurers Assemble quest, which you reach around level 12. In the beta, that was about 3 to 4 hours into the game. You do not need to pull on any banner.
