Monster Hunter Outlanders Gacha Rates & Pity System Explained

Monster Hunter Outlanders features three types of banners: Featured, Standard, and Beginner. Standard and Featured banners are the main banners in the game and have different pity systems. This guide covers all the Monster Hunter Outlanders banner rates, along with how the pity system works.

Note: The rates and pity details in this guide are based on the CBT3 banners. The developers removed the dedicated Buddy recruitment banners after CBT2, but Buddies can still be obtained from the character banners. I will update this guide with the final rates and pity system once the game goes live.

Monster Hunter Outlanders Gacha System Explained

Banners in Monster Hunter Outlanders are called “Recruitments”. You spend gacha currency called Contracts (standard/featured) or in-game premium currency called Rutacoins to pull on these banners. As of now, there are three types of banners that you can pull on to get characters in Monster Hunter Outlanders, as Buddy Recruitment banners were removed after the CBT2 feedback. Here is how the gacha rate works for each one:

Monster Hunter Outlanders Freya Crimson Authority banner

The Featured Recruitment is a limited-time banner with a boosted SSR Adventurer. At the time of launch, Midori might be the featured character, followed by Freya. To pull on a featured recruitment banner, you will either use Featured Contracts or Ruta Coins. You will probably be able to get these Featured Contracts from MHO codes and in-game activities. Featured SSR Adventurers are not added to the Standard Recruitment after their banner ends.

The base SSR rate on the banner is 0.6%. Out of this 0.6%, half of it (0.3%) belongs to the featured Adventurer. The rest is split evenly among all other SSR Adventurers. Here is how the rates look with and without pity:

RarityBase RateRate With Pity
SSR Adventurer (any)0.6%1.6063%
Featured SSR Adventurer0.3%1.0709%
SR Adventurer or SR Buddy9.4%14.3105%
R Buddy90%84.0832%

The SR rate of 9.4% is split into 7.05% for SR Adventurers and 2.35% for SR Buddies. R Buddies share their 90% evenly.

The Featured banner has four guarantees:

  • 90 recruit guarantee: You get one SSR Adventurer within 90 recruits.
  • 50/50 guarantee: When you get an SSR Adventurer, there is a 50% chance it is the featured one. If it is not, your next SSR Adventurer is guaranteed to be the featured one.
  • 120 recruit guarantee: Once per Featured Recruitment period, you are guaranteed the featured SSR Adventurer within 120 recruits.
  • 10 recruit guarantee: You get at least one SR Adventurer or SR Buddy in every 10 recruits.

Standard Recruitment

Standard Recruitment is always open. You need Standard Contracts to pull on this banner. I am not currently sure if all the SSR characters will be available on this banner or just the ones that were there at the launch of the game. Here are how the base rates are defined based on the in-game information:

RarityBase Rate
SSR Adventurer0.6%
SR Adventurer4.7%
SR Buddy4.7%

You are guaranteed one SSR Adventurer within 90 recruits. There is also a one-time reward. After 300 recruits on the Standard banner, you can pick any SSR Adventurer to join your squad. This only works once, so save it for the character you want most.

You can get 20 Standard Contracts from Pre-Registration milestones.

Beginner Recruitment

Monster Hunter Outlanders Beginner Recruitment Banner

The Beginner Recruitment is for new players. It guarantees one SSR Adventurer within 50 recruits, which is a much shorter wait than the 90 recruits on the other banners. The rates are the same as the Standard banner, and it takes Standard Contracts to pull on this banner. At the time of launch, there will be a 20% discount on this banner as well. So a 10 pull on this banner will cost 8 contracts rather than 10.

Does Pity Carry Over in Monster Hunter Outlanders?

It depends on the banner. Most Featured guarantees carry over to other Featured banners, but the 120 recruit guarantee does not. The Standard banner does not share pity with anything else.

GuaranteeBannerCarries Over?
SSR within 90 recruitsFeaturedYes, to other Featured banners
50/50 guarantee (lose the 50/50, win the next one)FeaturedYes, to other Featured banners
SR within every 10 recruitsFeaturedYes, to other Featured banners
Featured SSR within 120 recruitsFeaturedNo, resets each Featured period
SSR within 90 recruitsStandardNo, it is independent of other banners
Select any SSR after 300 recruitsStandardOne-time only and independent
SSR within 50 recruitsBeginnerBanner Ends after that

In simple terms, you will not lose your 90 recruit count or your 50/50 progress when a new Featured banner starts. But the 120 recruit guarantee starts fresh every time. If you have a long pity count built up, it is safe to wait for a Featured Adventurer you really want.

All Gacha Currencies in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Just like most other Gacha games, Monster Hunter Outlanders has three currencies that can be used to pull on banners. Apart from these currencies, there are Supply Vouchers that can be traded to buy items from the shop (this will also include contracts).

CurrencyWhat It DoesHow many you need to pull on banner
RutacoinsMain premium currency160

Featured ContractUsed to recruit on Featured banners1

Supply Vouchers in Monster Hunter Outlanders

While Supply Vouchers are not a gacha currency in Monster Hunter Outlanders, they can be traded for contracts. Although there will be monthly cap for it. If you have played other gacha games before, such as Genshin Impact, Supply Vouchers are equivalent to Masterless Stardust.

There are two types: Special Supply Vouchers and Standard Supply Vouchers. What you get depends on the rarity of what you pull on the banner:

Recruit ResultVouchers You Get
SSR Adventurer or SSR Buddy100 Special Supply Vouchers
SR Adventurer or SR Buddy20 Special Supply Vouchers
R Buddy20 Standard Supply Vouchers

Vouchers From Duplicates

You can also earn Special Supply Vouchers from duplicates. Every Adventurer has Insight, and each has a cap. Once you reach the cap, any extra copies turn into vouchers instead of being lost.

Each extra Insight for an SSR Adventurer5
Each extra Insight for an SR Adventurer1

This means pulling the same SSR Adventurer again after you have maxed them still gives you something useful.
