Marvel Rivals Thanos Release Date and Expected Abilities

Thanos is probably one of the most-requested characters to join the Marvel Rivals roster. Recently, in Dev Vision 22, NetEase announced that there will be two Path of Doomsday events in Season 10.5. The first one is Infinity Wars, which is already live, and the second one is Avengers End Game, which will go live on October 23, 2026.
Thanos is the final boss in the upcoming PvE Path of Doomsday: Avengers End Game mode, which is what fuels the question: When is Thanos coming to Marvel Rivals?
Is Thanos Coming to Marvel Rivals?
As of October 18, 2026, there is no official confirmation of whether Thanos will be added to the Marvel Rivals roster. However, NetEase has teased him and already confirmed that he will be a boss battle in Path of Doomsday: Avengers End Game mode.

Previously, other characters have also been introduced as boss battles without becoming part of the main roster. A few examples are Dracula and Kingpin.
That said, I am not completely ruling out the possibility of Thanos coming to Marvel Rivals. With Path of Doomsday currently ongoing and speculation about whether Thanos will make an appearance in Doomsday, there is a slight chance that Thanos or Doctor Doom might be added to the game.
However, based on the leaks shared by x0x and Easter eggs such as the Doomsday Is Near Gallery card, Nightcrawler is almost confirmed to be the upcoming character in Marvel Rivals Season 11. So, if Thanos or Doctor Doom gets added to the game, it might just be in Season 11.5. Season 11.5 makes more sense for one of these characters to join the roster, as it could fall in the same week as the global release of Doomsday.

Thanos’ Expected Role in Marvel Rivals
Thanos’ huge size and armor make him a perfect choice for the Vanguard role. In addition to his size, he is also a commander and warlord who leads from the front. Since Vanguards usually serve as the frontline in Marvel Rivals, this is another reason to believe Thanos could fill the role.
Interestingly, he could also be added to the game as a multi-role character, similar to Deadpool. In this case, I feel his role could depend on the Infinity Stones he is using.

- Reality + Soul: Vanguard
- Time + Mind: Strategist
Thanos’ Expected Abilities in Marvel Rivals
Since NetEase has already shown us what Thanos looks like as a boss, I am pretty sure that if he comes as a playable character, he will still be using his Infinity Gauntlet.
Basic Attacks: Titan’s Cleave
In Marvel movies and comics, I have seen Thanos use both hand-to-hand combat and his double-edged sword as weapons of choice. So, I feel his basic attacks will be melee attacks, either using his gauntlet or his sword.

Secondary Fire: Cosmic Hand Blasts
He might fire concentrated beams of white-hot cosmic energy directly from his palm.

Abilities Based on Stones and Roles
| Role | First Stone Ability | Second Stone Ability |
|---|---|---|
| Vanguard | Space Stone (Vortex Pull): Throws a rift that creates a gravitational pull, dragging nearby enemies tightly into the center. | Reality Stone (Shield): Projects a red energy barrier that dissolves incoming enemy bullets. |
| Duelist | Power Stone (Surface Melt): Fires a thick, purple laser beam from his palm. | Mind Stone (Confusion Wave): Emits a golden wave of psychic energy that forces hit enemies to walk backward and stumble out of control for 2 seconds. |
| Strategist | Soul Stone (Life Link): Connects to an ally with an orange beam, instantly converting any damage Thanos takes or deals into healing for that teammate. | Time Stone (Stasis Rewind): Targets a recently defeated ally and rewinds time around them, instantly bringing them back to life with full health. |
Team-Up Abilities
Alliance of the Underworld (Hela & Thanos)
Hela can target Thanos to infuse him with death magic. For the next 6 seconds, Thanos gains massive health regeneration based on the amount of damage Hela is currently dealing to enemies.

Cosmic Equinox (Adam Warlock & Thanos)
When standing near Adam Warlock, Thanos can press his interact key to supercharge his Cosmic Hand Blasts for the next 5 seconds. During this window, his cosmic beams pierce through multiple enemies and apply a slow effect to any target they hit.

That said, we still don’t have a confirmed release date for Thanos coming as a playable character in Marvel Rivals, but I will update this article as soon as there is any fresh information.
