Monster Hunter Outlanders Free Characters and How to Get

Technically, every character in Monster Hunter Outlanders is free if you are willing to grind through the game. Although, if we talk in the practical sense, it is really hard to keep grinding for premium in-game currencies to pull on all the MHO banners. Therefore, I have put together this guide on every free Monster Hunter Outlanders adventurer to help you with your F2P journey.

Free Monster Hunter Outlanders Adventurers

As of October 26, 2026, there are two SSR characters you can get for free, along with three SR characters. By default, the Fated Adventurer (main character) will be unlocked at the start of the game. Here is a list of all free Monster Hunter Outlanders Adventurers:

How to Get Luka for Free?

Currently, Luka is one of the strongest DPS characters in the game. He uses a bow as a weapon and belongs to the Assault Class.

In CBT3, you could get Luka by participating in an event named “Surging Lightning”. The event is quite straightforward, and all you need to do is complete quests to unlock it.

How to Get Pyro for Free?

Pyro is an SSR-rank Great Sword adventurer who belongs to the assault class and specialises in the Dragon element.

You can get Pyro for free by completing specific tasks in Hero’s Journey. This will reward you with Chronicle Coins. Once you spend 450 Chronicle Coins in the “Brave Adventure Chronicles” shop, you will automatically unlock Pyro.

How to Get Raya for Free?

Raya is an SR-rarity Disruptor character who uses a Dual Blades weapon. She is pretty much the easiest character to get for free, as she is tied to a pre-registration milestone event. Since the milestone has already been reached, you will be able to get Raya through in-game mail when you log in.

How to Get Madelyn for Free?

Madelyn	SR	Support	Bow	Water

Madelyn is the second free SR character you will get in MHO. She specialises in the Water element and belongs to the support class. She uses a bow as her weapon.

You will get Madelyn by progressing through the story. During my gameplay, I was able to get her within the first 2-3 hours. She is one of the rewards for completing the Toxic Mist Swamp quest.

How to Get Ouyang Varen for Free?

Ouyang Varen is the third SR character you will get for free. You will get him around when you are level 12. So that would roughly mean around 3-4 hours in the game.

Ouyang Varen is a Lancer user who belongs to the Assault class. You will get Ouyang Varen by completing the Adventurers Assemble quest.
